Protect Your Best Friend - Never let this happen
June 30th, 2010 by Maggie
Bobbee is a very special little dog, he came to us fearful to even breath due to very bad abuse. I am sure he lived in fear every second he was with his previous owners. (His Previous owner ended up with 6 months behind bars! A very successful prosecution – thank you god!))
He had 65 cigarette burns to his little skinny body, was thrown from a moving car onto a busy highway. Luckily a guy in a car behind the one Bobbee was travelling in saw what was happening, got his wife to take the number plate of the car down, swerved and didn’t hit him and stopped and picked his badly bruised little body up and took him to the nearest animal shelter. Luck was on Bobbee’s side.
More luck was on his side, as my niece was an animal carer volunteer at the time, and saw this dear little dog, and spoke to the vet at the shelter immediately and said “his prognosis?”
The vet said “The Big E” – its rainbow bridge time, I don’t think anyone would want to take him, he is so scared, so very timid, he has a broken rib, look at all those cigarette burns, it is going to take ages everyday to put cream on them, heal them, give antibiotics and give him time to learn to trust if he ever will - It will take months and months before he is right if ever”.
“I will take him, please let me take him” she said, “I will find him a home of the right kind, and if I cannot I will keep him”.
She was given Bobbee and she phoned me, told me of his plight and my husband and I and our 2 other rescue dogs drove 4 hours that very day to pick him up and bring him to a “Forever Home” of peace and love.
To cut a long story short, we took him to our vet, and it took a long time for him to heal physically, emotionally a lot longer, 18 months before he would even hop into a car on his own, walk on lead without trembling, go to other family members not living with us for a pat. But slowly Bobbee (as we named him) came out of his shell. We love him to bits, we do not care that he is still very timed at certain times - he gives us love beyond our wildest dreams.
3 weeks ago, we nearly lost Bobbee to Canine Pancreatitis – what caused it?? Who knows? We have never given out dogs fatty meats, etc. We cook for them everyday; they have fresh cooked chicken thigh fillets, without the skin, veggies, in fact the vet couldn’t pick holes in our diet for our dogs. We always give our 3 dogs the best. It could have been the result of the trauma he suffered 5 years ago at the hands of his previous owners, apparently an injury to that area can cause trouble later in life.
Who knows, apparently in some dogs it can come on, because say at a family celebration, they are given heaps of “Left over Goodies” which are high in fat, and bang they are in trouble. This didn’t happen on this occasion – our dogs are not allowed to have human treats.
Canine Pancreatitis is very painful and can cause death in dogs. Bobbee fought very hard to live, he was so bad, as one stage, we thought he wouldn’t make it through the hour, but he wanted to come home to us. He wanted to come home to his brother JD and his sister Popsie (even though Popsie bosses him around haha)
After many days in hospital He is home, and is slowly getting better, and we have to watch that no one feeds him anything he shouldn’t have. We have always been vigilant, but now even more so.
Why am I telling you this? Well I don’t want this to happen to any of your dogs. You must feed your dogs a quality diet, LOW IN FAT, and never give sausages from the B-B-Que, or anything like that.
I know so many people, think they can feed their best mate, table scraps, but honestly guys, you cannot.
By feeding your dog quality food your dog will avoid suffering from many potential health risks like…
• Heart problems
• Poor Energy Levels
• Digestive problems
• Reduced growth & development
• Obesity
• Allergies
• Behavioral issues
• Reduced quality of life
I am so passionate about dogs and making sure they are taken care of properly, I read and buy most books on the market about this subject.
I believe that this book “Solve The Dog Food Puzzle” is one that everyone who owns a dog should have and devour, honestly, it will save you so many $$$$$$s over the dogs lifetime!
If you love your dog, then love your dog food.
It is so easy to invest in your mate with “SOLVE THE DOG FOOD PUZZLE”
J.D. was starved by his previous owners, who beat him everytime he went to eat. We had to teach him how to eat. Now his appetite is very good!
Popsie was left in a backyard and starved, she had NO fur what-ever on her body, and was only 2.2lbs (1kg) when we got her, we had no idea what breed she was until she grew fur!
Yes, we love our dogs, and will only take in and love in our “forever home” dogs that has been so badly abused that no one else will take them on.
Until Next Time
P.S. I always get my dog toys from here
