December 30th, 2009 by Maggie

A cake is a universal favorite, no matter what age you are. If you are clueless about how to bake cake, do not fret – there are thousands like you, who like to bite into a cake, but are completely clueless about how to bake one!

Chances are that you have always wanted to get a grip on some simple recipes about how to bake cake, but never found the right opportunity to ask the right person.

Here are some simple steps for beginners on how to bake cake and for the easy way out, try this Pumpkin Chocolate Cake:

  1. To get started, you need a couple of pans, which are adequately greased and floured. If you like a 2-layer cake, take pans, which are 2.9” round.
  2. Ready the ingredients including Butter/Margarine, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt,
  3. Mix 3/4 cup Butter/Margarine and 1 and 1/2 cups sugar. Make sure that the Butter/Margarine is soft. (A stick of margarine is 1/2 cup so you would use 1 and 1/2 sticks). Mix the sugar with it on low speed preferably with an electric hand mixer
  4. To this shortening mixture add 1 cup of cooked and mashed pumpkin
  5. Then add 1/2-cup milk, 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
  6. Mix all these in your electric mixer running at medium speed till it turns creamy.
  7. Then add 2 cups of flour sifted twice, 2 or 3 Tablespoons powered Cocoa (depending on how rich you want it)- 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder plus 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix it well by keeping the electric mixer on low speed initially and then raising its speed gradually.
  8. Once the mixture is smooth and creamy, pour it in the prepared pans or pan. Tap the pans to remove any air bubbles. Your cake is ready to be baked.
  9. You can now bake the cake at 350 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes. Insert a knife into the cake after this period. If the knife comes out clean, your cake is ready! If you want your cake to be a bit drier, you could also over-bake it a bit.
  10. You could add more value to our cake by adding a chocolate butter cream frosting.

Now you know how easy it is to know how to bake cake!
